“Nightclub, restaurant and museum”
"For many years I've thought about building a place where I could display some of my mementos and traveling experiences, where I could play some music and invite my friends in the business to share their music with us. As I traveled the world, I worked in and visited many museums, theaters, restaurants and honkytonks, as well as performed at The White House, Empire State Building and Carnegie Hall... and slowly a picture developed in my mind... a picture that finally evolved into the Crystal Palace." -Buck Henry
How I regret having never made it to the Crystal Palace for Buck Owen's Friday/Saturday night performances before he passed...
While many reviews address it as a concert hall/restaurant, to me it's a fantastic MUSEUM, full of a priceless collection of memorabilia - photographs, outfits, platinum albums, Buck's red-white-blue guitar, hit lists, statues- covering the walls and under glass display cases. Buck's 1973 Pontiac Granville convertible (signed by Elvis) is perched sideways above the bar.
During my stroll through the Disneyland-saloon-style theater. I was amazed by the quality and quantity, having numerous open mouthed moments (Hee Haw display case and Dwight Yoakum' pants)
Since I didn't eat here, i cannot address the pros/cons of food served. The girls at the entrance will allow visitors into the museum/theater as long as you don't make yourself comfortable in the seating meant for diners.
Well worth a visit !
This place is a must stop if you are going through Bakersfield! We made reservations for dinner on their website about a month ago, and it was a good thing we did. They were completely packed that night and we got to see a special live show. The Buckaroos (Buck Owen's Band) played, along with a few other artists. The Venue has a very cool theme inside that looks like an old west town and a huge bar that even has a car on the wall!
Looks like a cool place but we were disappointed that the restaurant is for dinner only, we were driving through at lunch time and they didn't open until 5. But it looks like a great to visit!
