“A "hidden gem" among the restaurants in Kern County”
With a combination of traditional homestyle breakfasts, gourmet burger and sandwiches, along with wonderfully prepared steak and seafood dishes, the Rocket Shop Cafe is often referred to as a "hidden gem" among the restaurants in Kern County. Located at the very same spot as the old Skyway Cafe, the Rocket Shop Cafe opened in 2007 to fill a void left after the old restaurant closed in 2000. More than just an airport diner, the Rocket Shop Cafe hopes to bring some life back to Union Ave (Old Highway 99) and the South end of Bakersfield.
My family and I had breakfast here and it was good! It was a simple breakfast but well-made and had good service.
Our family dined at the Rocket Shop Cafe on our way to Sequoia National Park. It was a good local find. The menu had a large selection and the atmosphere was fun. We enjoyed the pickle spears as an appetizer. The scrambled eggs were delicious and there was a large selection of hamburgers. We would highly recommend for families tracking through Bakersfield looking for something off the beaten path.
