This beautiful short loop hike takes you along the shore of Sparks Lake and meandors through lava flows and lodgepole pine forests. With its great views to the high cascades, this trail was named for Oregon’s long-time photographer Laureate, and is located in one of his favorite places. A beautiful hike through forested lava fields and along the shore of Sparks Lake. Trail includes 1/2 mile of paved wheelchair accessible trail. Directions from Bend: Travel 26.2 miles west on Cascade Lakes Highway (46), then south on F.S. Rd. 4600 400 for 1 mile, to reach the Ray Alkeson Trailhead and the beginning of the trail.
