“THE pie place... off I-17”
Rock Springs Cafe, also known as "The Pie Place" off I-17 in Arizona's Sonoran desert, has been serving up home-cooked comfort food and world-renowned pies for more than 90 years! Stop by for breakfast, lunch or dinner seven days a week.
No historic landmark would be complete without a General Storefor merchandise. Things have changed since the Rock Springs General Store first opened in 1919. The pickle barrel, coffee grinder and other relics of the past have become wall ornaments.
Today our merchandise consists of Western treasures including T-shirts, candles, cards, jewelry, pottery and a variety of Arizona souvenirs.
This is one of my favorite restaurants to stop by any time I'm heading North or South on 17 in Arizona. What started as a place to eat awesome pie turned into a great place to eat a meal. I've eaten there for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and I have to say, I've been pleased with all 3 meals. This is great home cooking! And the pies....yum! I typically order some sort of blueberry pie (heated of course) and top it off with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. There is nothing better! Be sure to stop here anytime you are near the area!
Food is good but the pie is out of this world. Weekends get a little crazy but if you are stopping just for pie, they have takeout or they will seat you quicker in the bar area.
We enjoy stopping here for a huge breakfast and some pie to take for later in the day. The Jack Daniels Pecan Pie is there absolute best but I enjoy the peach as well.
Best pie in Arizona. Rock springs also has great breakfast and lunch. I stop here once a year every autumn to get a slice of there Jack Daniels pecan pie and a cup of Joe.
Order a slice of pie to go if you only have a few minutes to spare on your journey! Glad we stopped!
Stopped here for pie and was not impressed.
My daughter and I had a daytrip to Rock Springs Cafe. Great food and pie ofcourse . We were THRILLED to find liteweight mexican blankets forsale and a large variety. We were recently looking in Mesa,Chandler and Guadelupe, could not find any!! Imagine our surprise when we stopped for food and art stop to find exactly what we were looking for. We are gong back soon with more time to take time to look at all artwork in the different venues, and farmers market. Im also and artist and LOVE the huge variety if artist's creations on display for sale, worth a ling visit to see everything.
Customer service sure has gone downhill at Rock Springs Café. They were blatantly rude, unhelpful, and even hung up on me when I called to voice my concerns. More detail follows below.
I was there on 8/1/15 at 4pm with my daughter for a shake and to get my wife a slice of pie. Stopping at Rock Springs Café is routine whenever I'm traveling to Jerome, Sedona, or Flagstaff from Phoenix. In the past, customer service was phenomenal. Service with a smile, extremely helpful, and efficient. This time however the employee dishing out the slices of pie in the back was distraught and appeared to be running ragged. Not a single smile was seen. When one customer asked for some banana cream pie they were advised it was unavailable. By the time it was my turn to be served, fresh banana cream pie was being served up in the back window. The employee could've used her resources to see if any more banana cream was in process since the customer stated she lived five hours away.
Anyhow, I received my goods and asked if I still paid back there since the lobby had been rearranged since last being there. I was told the front cashier handles it now. Also while I was back there, I saw on the wall notes to the employees about not taking food home and not being allowed to eat in certain areas due to the mess they had been leaving. Why was I able to see this?!? Sounds like they are having some internal issues based on those notes posted in plain sight for every customer to see.
So now I am at the register being worked by Michelle (Server ID 522) with one person in front of me. It was slow going and finally it was my time to serve. Card in hand...and Michelle looks down and says "Whose pie is this?". A gentlemen stepped right in front of me and Michelle helped him first. Not a word to me as I moved out of the way. I watched Michelle. Not a single smile while I was there and not a single apology or explanation in regards to letting the gentleman step in front of me. A quick explanation and a smile would have easily appeased me.
At this point I'm on my way home and I had already decided to write this review. But this severely poor customer service was bothering me and decided to call and speak to a manager. I was hoping to at least to get an explanation. Maybe they recently came under new management. Maybe they were short staffed. Just something to explain the customer service, but that call lead to continued poor customer service.
When I called they picked up and immediately asked me to hold. Two minutes later someone else picked up and asked me to hold. Three minutes after that a woman answered and I asked for a manager. She quipped back stating she was too busy at the register to go get a manager. She also hung up without saying "Goodbye". Just flat out hung up on me.
As good as the food is and having so many previous positive experiences there, I'm sorry to say that this will be my last visit and instead will simply stay on the 17 FWY and happily pass by. I'll get better customer service in a fast food drive thru.
