“Make life sweeter: eat dessert first”
Crusty, crackling baguettes warm from the steaming oven ... buttery, raisin-filled brioche shaped in a swirl and drizzled with sweet icing ... silky-smooth double chocolate truffle tarts ... lemon curd cakes filled with raspberry preserves ... fresh, made-to-order salads and sandwiches. Imagine enjoying a muffin still warm from the oven, made with real butter and fresh fruit, alongside an oversized mug of café au lait. For lunch, choose among daily specials such as bacon and caramelized onion quiche or grilled portobello melt with pesto and fresh mozzarella. Bring home a beautifully decorated birthday cake made with flourless chocolate cake layers, rich chocolate mousse, and crushed raspberries. We offer buttery breakfast pastries, grand homemade cookies, luscious tarts, gorgeous cakes, and sandwiches, soups, and salads. Everything is prepared in-house by our professional kitchen staff. Our business includes morning commuters stopping in for breakfast, area employees and neighbors enjoying lunch, friends meeting for coffee and talk, office workers seeking to satisfy their 4pm sugar craving, people picking up bread, salad, or dessert for their evening meal.
Multiple locations, including one near Clarendon & Stanhope, Washington Street in the South End. I like the Ham & Egg breakfast sandwich and lamb sandwich best. Peanut butter cookie and sticky buns (claim to fame) are great. Coffee is fine, but nothing special. Chef/owner Joanne Chang runs Myers & Chang too.
The sandwiches are pretty darn delicious. The display of baked goods is extremely impressive, although my coconut meringue turned out to be a little burned on the bottom. The Farnsworth location can get pretty busy on the weekends (can't speak for during the week), but although we had to wait a while in line, we had no trouble finding seating. The outdoor seating area is a plus.
Chef-owner Joanne Chang sells, arguably, the most famous pastry in the Boston area: a massive, criminally buttery sticky bun that's worth lining up for at one of her four bakery outposts. But don't stop at the bun: The housemade Oreos, butter Breton cakes and Chunky Lola cookies warrant an order as well.
