“Attractions in Burleson, TX”
The Babe’s Chicken Dinner House in Burleson was opened on March 14, 2005. Burleson began when the Katy Railroad developed from Fort Worth to Hillsboro in 1880 and established a depot on the town site. As part of the agreement for the purchase of his land, Rev. Henry C. Renfro was allowed to name the depot and called it Burleson, in honor of his teacher Dr. Rufus C. Burleson, who was later president of Baylor University. In 1902, a fire destroyed all of the wooden, false-front business houses that made up Main Street in Burleson, prompting the new construction of masonry buildings. Our building, opened in 1905 as the Wilson Brothers Company, sold hardware, carriages, buggies, household furnishings and even caskets manufactured on the top floor where there once was a funeral parlor. We have some additional tidbits to share when you’re sittin’ in the dining room – just ask to see our Babe’s Facts while you’re finishing up your salad.
