Booth Western Art Museum is a 120,000 square foot Museum which houses the largest permanent exhibition space for Western art in the country. Galleries feature contemporary Western American art, historic Western art, Civil War art, Presidential portraits and letters, Western movie posters, and Western illustration. The Museum Store offers books on art and the West, as well as prints and other items featuring Western American art images. The Café offers light lunches to guests and members visiting the Museum. A multimedia theatre, with seating for 60, shows the award winning orientation film “The American West” every 20 minutes. The Museum hosts several lectures per month by authors, writers, historians and artists, including Art for Lunch held the first Wednesday of each month from 12:15 pm to 1:00 pm. A lecture or entertainment event is usually held on the third Thursday evening each month. These events begin at 7:00 pm in the 140-seat Booth Theatre and many feature a book, print or poster signings following the lecture. Entertainment events are generally free for members and included in regular admission for not-yet-members. Memberships are available. Members enjoy free admission and invitations to informative and entertaining events, while supporting the educational programs of the Museum. Western art isn't entirely my cup of tea, but this was the best laid-out and well-described art museum I have ever been to. There's a large variety in the works so if you're not particular to one style, just go to the next room and you'll find something new. Definitely worth a stop!
