Confirmed by 2 users | Last reported on August 21, 2018Cheboygan State Park is at the end of a mile long gravel road about 3 miles outside Cheboygan. The park itself is pretty small with 2 gravel circles, fire wood, water and dump station. Electric is 20A only and you share a power post with your neighbor. You may have issues running your A/C off the electric here - our inverter was in Power Assist mode when running the A/C.
Sites are generally pretty small and many are suitable for small trailers or tents only. Sites backing onto the bay have water access and some view of the sunset across the bay. There is a beach, beach volleyball and kayaks to use.
Still within the park but about a mile drive down another gravel road is a day use area with beach, restrooms, tables and BBQs. Great for a day at the beach. Park was very popular and completely full for our brief weekend visit.
About 3 miles away is Cheboygan which is a very nice town with an assortment of local stores on Main Street and more chain type stores a bit further out of town. Mackinaw City is about 15 minutes away and well worth the visit for great views of the bridge and some more shops to browse.
Overall the park is a bit cramped but in a beautiful location and lots to do close by. If you like to kayak this may be a great place to be.

Cheboygan State Park checks off many of the things that make us happy in a campground.
- some private sites
- great trail for walking
- water view from some sites
- CBS over the air HDTV
- fast un-boosted cell data.
Our campsite #44 was my favorite. The two on either side of us are great too (42 & 46). The power pole are shared between sites and are 20 amp.
The road leading in to the campground is dirt and since it had rained the day we arrived our trailer got covered in mud.
There are a couple miles of really nice trails here and some fun geocaches to be found.

If you’re a hiker or biker (the pedal kind) the trails here are FANTASTIC. Our site was on the small side for our 22’ trailer but we squeezed it in there. They have 20 amp service, no 30 or 50. The fire pits are more like burn barrels so I had to use my cooking grate for a fire (see pics). I have stayed here one other time during peak mosquito season and it was terrible, the park borders cedar swamp, but this time was great. A fantastic little park for spring and fall. We had 2 bars of Verizon LTE but data was horrible. All in all we loved our time here and will be returning next year.
