“preserving thousands of years of history”
The Museum of the Cherokee Indian is a non-profit organization on the Qualla Boundary in western NC, home of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, a federally recognized tribe. The Museum is dedicated to preserving and perpetuating the history, culture, and stories of the Cherokees. Permanent exhibit tells the story of indigenous people in the southern Appalachians for 11,000 years. Traveling exhibits, archives, and educational classes and workshops all carry out the mission. The museum also sponsors the Warriors of AniKituwha.
Lots of learning and history. Must go to learn more about the area.
What a lovely break from Smoky Mountain hiking. History was amazing, exhibits were great! Lots of learning and history. Not the most interactive displays but a great few hours! The gift shop was great!
