“don't be a turkey”
Turkey Bluffs State Fish and Wildlife Area was purchased with a 75% matching grant from the USFWS with Pittman-Robertson funding. The 2,264 acre area is located south of Chester and features scenic overlooks. The site is open for fishing, hunting, hiking, horseback riding, and observing wildlife. Squirrel, wild turkey, and deer are the most common game species. Upland game species such as rabbit and quail also occur at the site primarily in the open areas. Dove hunting is provided in large sunflower fields on the area. Hunting for all species with statewide regulations is permissible at Turkey Bluffs. While groups of 25 or more are welcome and encouraged to use the park's facilities, they are required to register in advance with the site office to avoid crowding or scheduling conflicts. At least one responsible adult must accompany each group of 15 minors. Pets must be kept on leashes at all times. Actions by nature can result in closed roads and other facilities. Please call ahead to the park office before you make your trip. We hope you enjoy your stay. Remember, take only memories, leave only footprints. Take a hike along the ridge to the switchback to the lower levels back in the direction of your starting point. There are old roads to explore and cool rock formations, basically three levels of old roads worn away. It is a fun and challenging maze, with spectacular towering bluffs above, as you make your way to the base of the observation deck.
