“Violet Hour drinks with dive bar minimalism”
Combine Violet Hour drinks with dive bar minimalism and you’ve got Analogue, the latest venture from Violet vets Robert Haynes and Henry Prendergast. Well-conceived cocktails share menu space with $3 drafts of Bud and everything in between, including surprises such as purls (beers infused with wormwood) and Cajun bites cooked up by the former chef at Rootstock. The look—sleek gray-and-black metal tables, exposed brick, candles everywhere—screams alternative ca- sual, all the more so with a guest DJ spinning LCD Soundsystem (a bit too loudly).
This unassuming (and unmarked) Logan Square bar has a menu of adventurous cocktails. If you want an adventure, try a 'purl,' a combination of light beer and bitter wormwood.
With no signage to speak of, you might miss this cocktail bar if you aren't looking for it. The discreet space is home to great Cajun-inspired fare, such a spicy fried chicken sandwich ($11), and is one of Chicago's only destinations for "purls" ($7). The potent English cocktails blend beer with bitters and pack a punch of flavor that lingers long after your last sip.
