Our Take

If you're looking to travel to new landscapes without leaving Cincinnati, Krohn Conservatory is a good place to start. Admire plants from deserts and tropical climates, check out ornate bonsais, and soak up the beauty of their many orchids, among other offerings during a visit here. The best time to visit is in the spring, when the annual butterfly show fills one of the rooms with colorful and exotic creatures; Bring fruit to lure them into landing on you.

“See over 3,500 plant species from around the world”

Krohn Conservatory, located at 1501 Eden Park Drive in Eden Park, was built in 1933 at the height of the Art Deco era. It's what's inside those aluminum and glass walls that make Krohn Conservatory truly special. Krohn Conservatory is a conservatory located in Eden Park within Cincinnati, Ohio. The conservatory was completed in 1933, and named in honor of Irwin M. Krohn who served on the Board of Park Commissioners.  You'd have to travel a good distance from Cincinnati to visit a rainforest or a desert – or come to Krohn Conservatory, Cincinnati Parks' nationally recognized showcase of more than 3,500 plant species from around the world. Krohn changes throughout the year with special exhibits and programs, including the ever-popular "Butterfly Show," where thousands of butterflies are free to fly throughout the show room in a specially-themed garden. You can always visit the famous rainforest waterfall and exotic plants on permanent display in the Palm, Tropical, Desert and Orchid houses as well.

One of the unique events that Krohn Conservatory has is the Butterfly Show. Every spring, they have a new set of butterflies from around the world. My kids really enjoyed it, though my daughter was disappointed that all they did was fly around. I think she was expecting them to do tricks; I have no idea where she got this idea.

My mom was recently in town and I brought her here because it is the perfect place to bring mothers and grandmothers. The plants are all beautiful and the butterfly exhibit was pretty amazing. If you hate crowds, I would recommend avoiding the butterflies as the room tends to get very crowded.

Absolutely beautiful, the kind of place you want to take a date, and it's nice and lush all year round, a nice change of scenery during the dead of the Midwest winter.

Go during the spring to check out the butterfly exhibit, which is far more breathtaking than I want to admit as a heterosexual man.

Very cool place to take little kids, especially when they have monarch butterflies. Also cool to go on cold winter days when you need to pretend you're in the tropics for a little while.

This place is a must see. It's absolutely beautiful and there's just so much to see. It's a great place to go as a family because the kids will really enjoy all there is to learn and look at and honestly it's a great place to go even if you just go by yourself and need a peaceful place to retreat to for a few hrs.

This place is absolutely beautiful for a saturday afternoon! It's gorgeous inside and there are lots of things to look at. I believe it's in the fall, but the butterfly exhibit makes this place even cooler. I always bring my camera to take pictures for art work.

If you are a 90's family movie fanatic like myself (and of course you are) you'll be happy to know this is the filming location the 1993 rollerblading/hockey motion picture Airborne. It's shot all around the city but this is perhaps the most recognizable landmark from the movie. The movie is famous for being the first roles of both Seth Green and Jack Black.

While green plants and blooming flowers may not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Ohio, it can be at Krohn Conservatory.

With more than 3,500 plant species, visitors can wander through a variety of climates from the tropical rainforest palm house to the desert house and more, all located within Eden Park.

We think a visit here is one of the best things to do in Cincinnati!

We enjoyed visiting with my 5 yr old granddaughter. She especially enjoyed the butterfly exhibit. Many beautiful plants from around the world. Even an indoor waterfall.

Its a beautiful conservatory with several large rooms full of unique plants. There are two rooms that have streams with fish in them and the atrium has a waterfall with a tunnel behind it to walk through! The landscaping outside is also quite spectacular. Its in a part of town that is near other scenic parks to stroll through as well.
