“Tacos, Tequilas and Whiskeys”
Bakersfield OTR was inspired by a city (Bakersfield, CA) known for spawning an era of music called the Bakersfield Sound. The “Sound” was a reaction to the slick, pop country music coming out of Nashville. It was firmly country but had more of a rock n’ roll influence, and was a bit less polished than other records of the time. Buck Owens, Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, and others defined this type of music, and it quickly became a nation-wide phenomenon in the 1950’s and 1960’s. These guys were rebels of their time. Rock stars with a hillbilly, country attitude. Bakersfield is a small agricultural city in southern California, where there was and still is a heavy Mexican influence. Thus Bakersfield serves Mexican-influenced street fare with a focus on tacos, tequilas, and whiskeys. Our tequila, whiskeys, and beers will range from super premium to super affordable. Our food is simple, street-driven, authentic Mexican. Our music and feel is inspired by honky tonks around the country. We play everything from rock to country, blues to funky.. Stop in and hang with us soon!!
Never got the big deal about this place. Food is ok, drinks are pretty good, but not worth waiting among the yuppies who use this place as a place to be seen more than a restaurant. Skip it unless you can get in with no wait.
Cheep PBR boots and chips and guac are pretty much the perfect way to end the day. The food in incredible, which makes it an awesome choice for lunch, unfortunately it's usually packed solid. It's a great little place though, only wish it was bigger.
I went here with a group of four and had an awesome time. It certainly helped that we had put in our name early and then got drinks before dinner, so we got to stroll in at 8 on a Saturday night without waiting. The tacos certainly aren't the greatest tacos that ever graced this earth, but they're pretty delicious. Margaritas and their chips & guac (or queso) are a must.
Bakersfield is a great local taco shop. They have a great variety of a la carte tacos - my favorite being the short rib. Their tortas are also great - especially the short rib - some of the best/fresh guac in town. Their verde salsa on the table goes great on anything. PBR by the boot or margs by the mason jar - can't go wrong. Always crowded and don't take reservations.
I love everything here. In order of love: guacamole, tequila shots, margaritas, beer in a boot, salads, fish tacos, queso (real cheese!), tortas.
Always a lot of energy and you can't help but running into someone you know. Definitely recommend a stop at Bakersfield to experience local OTR flavor.
awesome tacos, amazing margaritas and really chunky, good guac (and all at a very affordable price, $4 per taco). Don't listen to Luisa... this place is the real deal
They have Mexican coke in a bottle. The chips and green salsa are perfect. A taco runs 3-4 dollars. Yes, trendy, but laid back, noise level isn't bad if the front of the place is open. If you're looking for a place to hang while waiting to go a Reds game, here's a perfect spot.
I was skeptical of this place at first, but after my most recent visit, they won me over.
The place isn't huge, and it's generally pretty packed, so if you're visiting with a group, be prepared to wait for awhile. On the other hand, if you're coming as a duo, you shouldn't have a problem saddling right up to the bar without a problem.
The bartenders are friendly, the food is fantastic (if portioned pretty small for the price), and they've got PBR served in boot-shaped glasses for $2 and daily shot specials for $3. For that kind of price, you can forgive paying four bucks for a tiny fish taco.
Bakersfield is the perfect place to grab some chips, guacamole, and a pitcher (or two) of margaritas after work.
I am soooooo happy this place opened up in OTR! Amazing tacos! You don't feel like you've had a super heavy meal afterwards either (unless you go all out and get a boot of PBR and chips and guac...which I HIGHLY recommend).
