“Reptiles, amphibians & birds, oh my!”
The Emporia Friends of the Zoo was founded during 1978. The Society's stated purpose has been to provide financial support for the expansion, development and maintenance of the Zoo. By nature, Zoo operations and projects are expensive. Therefore, we solict contributions, memberships and support to help us accomplish our goals of providing birds, animals and Zoo facilities in which Emporia and the surrounding communities can take great pride. We are proud of our accomplishments; however, much remains to be done. We invite you or your organization to become members of the Emporia Friends of the Zoo. All memberships as well as donations are tax deductible and provide help necessary to achieve goals for various Zoo projects.
This place was incredible. Completely free though so I will be looking into donating to the organization online.
Beautifully kept grounds hold large animals (we saw an ostrich and a longhorn) to small (many birds, monkeys, lemurs, etc). A playground for young kids and vending machines/picnic tables for a place to eat. Like a normal zoo, lots of info about the animals for you to read while you watch them. This zoo really was amazing, not too big so little kids wouldn’t probably get bored too quickly. My 10 and 12 year old boys enjoyed it.
Also across the street is a Veterans Memorial that holds a retired tank and a helicoptor, also beautifully kept grounds with walking paths. A nice place to stop before or after.
Completely free! Huge condor exhibit and mountain lion exhibit. large animals like buffalo to small cute ones like prairie dogs and small monkeys. Really nice place to stop and stretch your feet and get a lot of animal for no cost at all. Best thing about emporia in my opinion.
