“great food, great coffee, & amazing views”
Kiva Koffeehouse is a unique treat nestled amidst the beauty of the Escalante Grand Staircase National Monument in Southern Utah. We offer a relaxing stop to travelers for an overnight stay or just a quick break from travel. We serve homemade soups and breads, sweets and cold drinks, and we also have a full espresso bar with freshly ground coffees. Kiva Koffeehouse was created by artist, mentor, contractor, inventor and engineer, Bradshaw Bowman. The idea was born in 1990 and the structure was completed in June 1998. The main materials used in this structure are crafted wood elements from logs, stone and glass. It took 2 years to collect the 13 Ponderosa Pine perimeter logs from the high forests of the West. Some of these logs have nearly 300 rings, existing even before our country was born. The smaller interior logs and Vigas (rafters) are Spruce. The latillas are from smaller Lodge Pole Pine. The sandstone walls were quarried from our on-site quarry. Mr. Bowman, at a very young at heart age of 87, completed Kiva Koffeehouse. He worked to create and continue this project, which is Kiva Kottage, embedded in the rim beneath the KIVA. His love of this project served to give him an unparalleled drive in his last days until his death on Christmas Eve 2000. He is missed by those that knew him, but his work will serve as a memory of a very special man. Kiva Koffeehouse offers a variety of great food, amazing views, and a look into the history of the Escalante Canyon. It is open on a seasonal basis April to October from 8:30am until 4:30pm every day except Tuesdays.
A must-stop for anybody driving on Highway 12 through Grand Staircase-Escalante. Kiva Koffeehouse offers a stunning view of the area from both its indoor structure and the outdoor patio. I had their southwest scramble, which was delicious, but to be honest I was more than happy to just sit back and dig the scenery with a cup of coffee in hand. Definitely one of the coolest coffeeshops I've been to, and certainly the one with the best location.
I would recommend this for breakfast lovers who would want to eat with a really nice view. As the name of the place says, it's is a coffeehouse. So there's nothing much on their menu. But they do have a great selection of sandwiches, fresh salads, some drinks and a few baked goods. The food was tasty and delicious but not something to rave about. Price was pretty reasonable for the servings that they offer. Staff were nice and friendly. Service was kinda slow, though. And it was kinda warm inside, too.
A lovely surprise within the curves of route 12 in the Escalante area. Fantastic views surround the Kiva Koffeehouse making it a great place to enjoy a cup of coffee or tea. There are pastries, cookies, and sweetbreads to choose from plus a menu of light fare if you desire a meal. Our late afternoon visit included a cinnamon roll and coffee for my husband and a delicious ginger cookie and tea for me. It’s definitely worth stopping by!
so worth finding , just to get a snack, cup of Joe and take a look around, filled with fine art and great people and the views from this hidden gem are amazing, got to look for the sign, you will never see the building, its worth the effort
Turn-the-bend welcome surprise. Turn in! The vibe is just right, food delicious (scramble, latte), perfectly incorporated into the scenery. I left feeling relaxed, full, satisfied.
The espresso and baked goods here are great, but the view from the shop is the main attraction. Seriously, there isn't a better place for breakfast, lunch, or a quick snack break in Southern Utah!
