“life on the edge of an Indian Territory”

From the establishment of the first Fort Smith on December 25, 1817, to the final days of Judge Isaac C. Parker's jurisdiction over Indian Territory in 1896, Fort Smith National Historic Site preserves almost 80 years of history. Visitors can explore life on the edge of Indian Territory through the stories of soldiers, the Trail of Tears, dangerous outlaws, and the brave lawmen who pursued them.

Seemed interesting...tour was cut short due to a really bad passing storm and lost electricity so we didn't make it past the ground floor, but the volunteer guide (not a park ranger) was extremely informative and passionate about the history at Fort Smith.

Disreguard my last review. The written address is fine as is but using the navigate button the GPS took us to a location across the street from dollar general...

This was a wonderful stop! We enjoyed stretching our legs visiting the original Ft Smith site and learning the history. We also stopped in at George's for some yummy down home cooking. Everyone was super nice and just a wonderful group of people. I highly recommend visiting.
