Natural Wonder

Our Take

The Flume Gorge holds all the magic of the White Mountains, with towering granite faces alongside stunning waterfalls within a dense forest. It feels like a hidden world, and if you can take the two-mile hike at a less crowded time, like first thing in the morning, you'll be able to meander over bridges and up the side of the gorge on boardwalks while truly enjoying the sound of the water rushing over the rocks, creating hundreds of swirling pools edged with beautiful moss and ferns. Be prepared for this to cost more than the typical state park admission, but there is a Discovery Pass which is actually a great deal since it includes the awesome tram up to Cannon Mountain, located a few miles up the road.

This cost $14 per person and no pets aloud. It was frustrating and you had to have a registration. The internet ranked so we weren’t able to pay the “fee” so we left. It looked beautiful but $42 was a bit steep and I couldn’t take my dog for a hike after being in the car for 6 hours.

Great natural site! Accessible for most people. You can take a short hike to the trailhead or take a bus to the trailhead. if you take the bus, there is still a short uphill hike and stairs that need to be taken to get to the top of the flume. Last entry is at 5:30 PM, but once in, you can take as much time as you like. I went on a rainy afternoon at 5 PM and had the whole place to myself, despite its usually heavy traffic.

Flume Gorge is a beautiful place with many different views. You can walk into the gorge, look at waterfalls, walk across bridges and observe many types of wildlife. The trail to the gorge is a two mile loop that can seem very drawn-out. Afterwards you can visit the gift shop and eat at the food court. This is a great destination for a photographer seeking photo opportunities.

Beautiful trail! I’d recommend hiking shoes, we saw a lot of chipmunk along the way. The falls are gorgeous! You can go with kids. You’ll spend about 2-2 and a half hours here. Scenic drive nearby and a nice restaurant called black mountain burger where we actually saw a cub while having dinner.

Lovely site, majority of loop did seem to be on a trail through the trees however walking through the actual gorge was lovely. Definietly pack slip-proof footwear or be careful around the waterfalls

The price is up to $21 a person. Didn’t do this hike and still was able to see lots of great scenery.

With every penny! The hike was longer and steeper than we expected, but we made it through, even with my bum knee. And it was worth every step and every penny. Definitely one of the highlights of our NE adventure!

We were on the fence about this one, but our whole family (including two teenagers) was glad we decided to go. It was a wonderful 2 mile round trip hike. You start off walking through well marked trails and eventually up a series of stairs which are bolted in to the rock face and elevates you above the gorge. After passing the falls, you loop around and come down the opposite side. Great photo ops along the way. We went in early June, before the Summer vacation season kicked in to full gear so the lines were vey reasonable and well spaced. A word of caution...If you've been in sloth mode sitting on the couch for the last 2-3 years courtesy of Covid, the inclines may be a bit challenging. Not impossible, but you may be a bit sore the following day.
