Avondale is a wonderful destination for recreationists looking a little boating on their day trip. Here, visitors can bring their family and friends for water sports and plenty of sunshine. It is operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District. Avondale is an ideal launching point for boat fishing. Bank fishing is also popular, with black bass, crappie and paddlefish in the area. Water skiing, sailing and swimming are also big attractions. The group picnic shelter accommodates up to 50 people and 45 vehicles. Flush toilets and a boat ramp are available for use. Directions: North of Nashville on I-65, exit at Vietnam Veterans Blvd E and follow it until it rejoins Gallatin Road (Highway 31E), turn right onto Shute Lane from Gallatin Road, turn right again onto Avondale Access Road. Follow signs into recreation area.
