“Explore our rich history!”
Voted into existence by the people of Goodland in 1959, the High Plains Museum opened its doors in 1960 as a local history repository located near downtown Goodland, Kansas. The High Plains Museum is owned and operated by the City of Goodland and is organized under the City’s Parks and Recreation Department. The High Plains Museum features objects in permanent and temporary exhibits from its collection of over 8,000 objects that represent its over one hundred years of Northwestern Kansas history. The High Plains Museum enables adventurers of all ages to discover the rich history of Sherman County as well as places beyond in its program of changing exhibits.
I'm so glad we stopped here! Admission is free (but you should donate anyway) and it has such cool little exhibits like a life-size replica of the first patented helicopter (and it moves!). We had a great time looking around and learning about a little Kansas town we had never hear of before.
