Confirmed by 1 users | Last reported on October 16, 2023We came for the fish & chips. We tried to stay farther south at one of the state parks, but they were either full or didn't have any signal. The park was also setting up for a music festival, so I think it was busier than usual. Nothing was available right on the water, but we drive into town for ice cream and caught a beautiful sunset over the marina.

We've made our reservations and will be staying here for the 4th year in a row. We always plan our trip to coincide with the Unplugged Folk Music concert. It's crowded for the weekend that we're there but we love the Lake, the boats and the music which is next door at the North House Folk School. Learn how to make a boat, a guitar, leather goods, basket weaving, wood carving. It's an easy walk into town and there lots of little shops to peruse and some outstanding places to eat. The Angry Trout Cafe is a must stop.

We reserved this campsite well in advance for a week in mid-September. We couldn't see Lake Superior from our campsite but we could hear small waves lapping on the shore--so we were close. Sites are relatively close together but trees/shrubs give a feeling of privacy.
The campground is on the edge of town within easy walking-distance. Although Grand Marais is a tourist destination, it didn't feel overly commercialized. Several good restaurants and many of them with great views of Lake Superior.
We enjoyed exploring the area--up towards Boundary Waters as well as Grand Portage.
We didn't use the bathrooms and showers but they seemed fairly clean and modern.

This campground is convenient to the charming town of Grand Marias. Many of the sites have plenty of tree cover and privacy. The bathroom facilities are updated and kept clean. Checking in is a smooth process and we were given an upgraded site since one of their monthly guests had checked out early. The sites are close enough to Lake Superior that you are treated to sound of crashing waves as you drift off to sleep. Seasonal guests keep their sites clean which keeps the property looking nice. There is firewood for sale on the property, or you can walk into town (5 minutes) for anything else you might need.
The only reason we're not giving this 5 stars is because there is a customer service disconnect in the campground office. When we spoke with the manager, we were treated like old friends, but when we made a couple of adjustments to our reservations with another employee over the phone, the service was less than pleasant. Reservations in the middle of the summer are hard to come by, so don't wait too long to decide!

Decent campground outside Grand Marais, MN. Great location. A large campground, but they hide it decently - you are still close to others though. There is a town shared hall and baseball field in the campground space, so can be noisy...
Also, looking around, level is *not* something they offer. Be prepared to work to get level!
Staff super nice as well. 5 Star was missed due to poor level and noise at times...

We were able to get in here at the last minute over the 3-day Labor Day weekend. Typical city campground with packed in campers/tenters enjoying the outdoors. They love sitting outside around a campfire so there’s a lot of smoke.
In the morning the showers were very busy and we had no hot water!
Our site had electric and water only but there is a sani-dump on the property. As other reviewers said, it’s a great location near town.

Great stay in a very scenic little town on the shore of Lake Superior “up North.” Fun trails along the lake, Lake Superior agates are findable.

A few long term campers and lots of temporary. I thought it was a little too expensive, we had electric and water only. It’s an extra $10 fee for reservations. However, there weren’t many choices unless you could get into a state park and they were full when we visited. This was a good home base to visit a few areas.

We dropped in on 4th of July weekend and were able to get 2 sites for one night. Huge campground. Sites are close together, but neighbors were respectful. Within walking distance to city, shops, and restaurants.

Stayed here on my way to Isle Royale and had a wonderful night. I booked an electric site (#233) to charge and camp in my Tesla, which worked out great. It was crowded on a Thursday night (August 17th) but it got really quiet after dark. I had plenty of space at my site and didn’t mind that the other sites were close by. Bugs weren’t bad, but I used spray, a citronella candle, and a Thermacell for protection. The women’s bathrooms were clean, and firewood was available at the office (I think a bundle was $6). Very pet friendly - my dog was relaxed here. Loved the location next to town, which was a beautiful walk during sunset (and I highly recommend getting coffee at Java Moose in the morning). Night skies are beautiful, especially on the water. A little pricey with all the fees (a $43 site turned into $60). I booked my site over a month in advance and there were only a few spots available, so don’t delay!
