“epic museum in a former cold war silo (missile included)”

"Duck and Cover!" Bomb shelters, the Berlin Wall, weekly tests of the Emergency Broadcast System, the piercing sounds of air raid sirens, and the Space Race. These are the hallmarks of the "Cold War" era.

The Titan Missile Museum showcases the dramatic vestiges of the Cold War between the U.S. and former Soviet Union and provides a vivid education about the history of nuclear conflict-a history of keeping the peace.

At the Titan Missile Museum, near Tucson, Arizona, visitors journey through time to stand on the front line of the Cold War. This preserved Titan II missile site, officially known as complex 571-7, is all that remains of the 54 Titan II missile sites that were on alert across the United States from 1963 to 1987.

Able to launch from its underground silo in just 58 seconds, the Titan II was capable of delivering a 9-megaton nuclear warhead to targets more than 6300 miles (10,000 km) away in about 30 minutes. Nowhere else in the world can visitors get this close to an intercontinental ballistic missile in its operational environment. This one-of-a kind museum gives visitors a rare look at the technology used by the United States to deter nuclear war. What was once one of America's most top secret places is now a National Historic Landmark, fulfilling its new mission of bringing Cold War history to life for millions of visitors from around the world.

Fantastic tour. The best part...seeing the actual missile still onsite. Great place to take out of towners.

I have been to it multiple times! It is really cool! But going in Summer is not a good time! When they guide you underground to see where the work stations and other things are, there is no air conditioning. It will be hot and uncomfortable. Oh! And don't forget to ask you tour guide about their experience working there! (The old workers and veterans all volunteer to show guests around)

Very interesting place, tours are once an hour, so if you get there after the tour starts, you have to wait an hour until the next hour. (top of the hour) It's hot but it's interesting.

We came when they were fixing the control center carpet, so we only got to do the topside tour and watch the video, but it was still enjoyable. It was very interesting and informative. Would recommend it.

Careful!!! No body push and buttons or turn any keys! lol. This was a very cool stop and gives a first hand view of the military presence the U.S. maintained throughout the Cold War. You get to see the control room, the titan missile which were all very well maintained. We took the 1 hr plus tour and it was perfect. The longer tour will show you sleeping quarters and the kitchen (pass).

You don't need to be a rocket scientist to enjoy and appreciate this place. Dorks and nerds are going to have a blast here though.

Guys, you can go see a real friggin' missile. Be warned though, it gets super super hot in the summer, and you're not going to want to be in the actual silo for very long.

Be sure to ask the volunteers around their experiences... most of them actually worked at the silo when it was in operation!
