“The finest wines in Hamptonville”
The farm property was purchased in 1948 by Isom King as a farm for raising tobacco. Throughout the 1950′s the King family raised tobacco on the exact location where the grapes are planted today. In the 1960′s with tobacco production slowing down the farm was converted to pastureland. Dobbins Creek vineyards gets its name from a large spring that originates on the property (just down the hill from the tasting room) this spring is part of the headwaters of Dobbins Creek. Dobbins Creek flows South and West for a few miles before merging with Buck Shoals Creek. The 1st vines were planted in the Spring of 2002, with additional plantings in 2003, 2004. In 2006 Charles decided to build a tasting room on his original tract of the family property. We broke ground in Aug. 2006. It took a year and a half to complete the structure; some of the significant challenges was building a new road and digging a 10 foot deep basement in layer after layer of rock. We picked the specific spot for the tasting room because it provided us with the best views we could find. On most clear days you can see the buildings of Winston Salem about 43 miles to the East. On a very clear day you can see the top of Grandfather Mountain about 73 miles to the West, and on all days you can enjoy the view of the vineyard and beyond looking South. The Building is 1920 square feet with a full basement, and a 600 square foot front porch. It is build out of German style cut logs with no chinking, logs are held together with 15 inch lag bolts every 2 feet. The floor is mill run Hickory and the fireplace and all of the outside underpinnings are covered in Mojova stone quarried outside of Morganton NC. One unique feature of the tasting room is the wine bar covered in 100 year old wild Cherry harvested from the property.
New ownership has brought a new era to Dobbins Creek, but the wine remains some of the best in the area. The stainless Chardonnay and all of the reds were a hit in our most recently visit. They... Read more
