“The iconic route 66 wigwam motel!”

"Right on Route 66 in Holbrook, AZ is the next-to-last Wigwam Village ever constructed… Wigwam Village Motel No. 6. This nationally registered historic motel is one of the most popular spots along Route 66, even if it’s just for a picture or two. If you want to stay, it won’t break the bank. A single queen bed runs just $56 while 2 doubles will cost you an extra $6. Although affordable, BOOK WAY IN ADVANCE. It’s such a good deal, the Wigwam Motel stays full most of the year. To give the teepees of Wigwam Village an even more nostalgic feel, classic cars are placed throughout the parking lot. Like Wigwam Village #2, Wigwam Village #6 has most of your standard motel amenities, and the motel office is kind-of like a museum of Americana." -Roadtrippers Entrance to the Wigwam Village Motel #6 National Park Service Route 66 Corridor Preservation Program In the arid Arizona desert, the Wigwam Village Motel in Holbrook still provides Route 66 aficionados the opportunity to “Sleep in a Wigwam!” While passing through Cave City, Kentucky in 1938, Chester E. Lewis was impressed by the distinctive design of the original Wigwam Village constructed in 1937 by architect Frank Redford. An astute observer may notice that the Wigwam Village is not composed of wigwams but of teepees. Mr. Redford, who patented the wigwam village design in 1936, disliked the word ‘teepee’ and used ‘wigwam’ instead. Mr. Lewis purchased copies of the plans and the right to use the Wigwam Village name. The purchase included a royalty agreement in which Mr. Lewis would install coin operated radios, and every dime inserted for 30 minutes of play would be sent to Mr. Redford as payment. Seven Wigwam Villages were constructed between 1936 and the 1950s. Finished in 1950, Mr. Lewis’ village was the sixth, thus its designation as Wigwam Village #6.

This place was nice and quiet, you can even stay the night in one of the wigwams if you want! They have a bunch of classic and historical vehicles too. It's not too far off the interstate either, a must stop for anyone driving by!

This is a perfect place to stop after seeing the painted desert and petrified forest, you should do those afternoon late day lighting for best colors and then spend the night here. Very clean and comfortable and the nostalgia of old Route 66 is the best!

Amazing historical hotel that has a ton of charm. Your room is like something out of the 50s. The bed was pretty comfortable but I should be clear...if you came expecting a 5 star hotel, you'll be disappointed. The TV was a small computer monitor, there was no Wi-Fi, the bathroom is very tiny and there is nothing in the room but the bed and a small desk and chair. I came for the history, though and appreciated it for what it was. The sad thing was how bad of shape Holbrook is in. So many abandoned buildings and cool old Route 66 businesses that are dead or dying. Do your part and support historic places like this before they are all gone.

A very wonderful place and the folks who own it are exceptionally friendly. We stopped here on the way home from vacation last April (2013), unfortunately they were completely booked for the two nights we were going to be in town. I have been by here as a child and WILL stay here in my lifetime.

This place is so cute! We looked at a room that they were cleaning, and it was cute. If you love Route 66, then you should stay here. They have the classic cars parked out front and everything! SO CUTE!!!!

Closed when we stopped by around noon. You can't see in the wigwam rooms as they are all curtained. Interesting but not sure if it's worth a drive by.

Awesome place to stay! Full of history and nostalgia, the rooms are exceptionally well-kept and very clean. Carpet is clean (feel free to walk around barefoot and verify for yourself), staff including the owner were incredibly friendly and inviting. I was arriving late and they worked it out to make sure I would be able to get into our wigwam. Told us a bit about the history and recommended the Navajo Tacos at Joe & Aggie's across the street. We were so comfortable, we decided to stay another night. If ever we're this way again, we won't stay anywhere but here. Support locally-owned business where people take pride in what they do!

If you want a unique place to stay on Route 66, this is it. Our wigwam was clean, with good air conditioning and a TV. Nothing fancy, but it was clean and affordable. They've put a lot of work into the wigwams, and this is a great, classic Route 66 business to support.
