“a small mexican bakery”
El Bolillo Bakery is a small mexican bakery Houston, Texas. It began as a small bakery at the corner of Airline Dr. in the Greater Heights area of Houston. Over time the bakery became popular due to its everyday fresh pastries and customer service. It grew from a small corner bakery and soon moved to a newer building across the street. It later opened a second location on the South side of Houston in the Gulgate area. El Bolillo Bakery has now opened its third location off of S. Wayside. It has become part of the Houston East End Chamber of Commerce and has remained active within the Community surrounding it.
Freshly baked, stubby, torpedo-shaped bolillo bread gives this Mexican bakery its name, but that's far from the only draw. Grab a tray and bum-rush the pastry cases, loading up with an assortment of vibrant and often whimsically shaped treats. Don't let the name fool you, though; pan dulce tend to be restrained in sweetness, more bread than sugar and all the better for it. If you really have a sweet tooth, inquire after a slice of tres leches, a traditional Mexican cake soaked in three different kinds of dairy products, sweetened condensed milk chief among them. It sounds unusual to the uninitiated, but is a singular treat.
