“Bavarian flair in downtown Indy”
Set in the historic, 19th century Athenaeum Building downtown, The Rathskeller is reminiscent of both a quaint inn tucked in the Bavarian hills and a lively beer hall in Munich. Voted Best German Restaurant seven years in a row, even a true German feels at home here. From Jäegerschnitzel to Filet Mignon, the award-winning menu features authentic German cuisine as well as steak, seafood, chicken, pork and vegetarian entrees. The Rathskeller also features an extensive wine and beer menu.
The food here is great and the building is historic and one of a kind, but my favorite part is the massive patio/beer garden. Tons of picnic tables offer plenty of seating perfect for summer evenings. Great selection of European import beers on tap go great with their wurst sampler. Watch out for the spicy mustard - tons of horseradish - it can seriously burn!
Voted the best German restaurant seven years in a row, the Rathskeller's biggest appeal is the beer garden. Lots of room with plenty of seating and live music make thirsty mid-westerners very happy. Heat lamps make sure the patio stays nice and comfortable for drinking deep into the night.
Go here to see Polkaboy play! It's always a great show.
The beer garden here is the best I've been to in Indiana. A great patio with live music regularly. If pretzels and Hefeweizens are your thing, chances are you're in the right place.
