Upon entering, you can tell how much love the owner has for this place! He greeted us at the entrance in the pay booth before going in. He gave us a free bag of corn to feed the animals! The price is very reasonable and affordable so that all are able to partake. This is not an upscale or fancy zoo, but it is wonderful! I liked that it wasn't overcrowded, and you could go at your own pace throughout the park. The grounds/exhibits are nestled in the forest providing much needed shade in the nearly 100 degree Summer heat. There were several benches scattered throughout the park, which is great for the elderly, disabled, or those out of shape. They have mammals, reptiles, and birds including over 80 animal exhibits on 10 acres of land. The first thing we saw was a semi-large tortoise that my husband was able to hold. A small kid from another family was able to reach down and touch his back. I love how interactive this place is and that you can get up close to the animals, but are still safe. There is a pond shortly after entering near the picnic area with turtles in it. It was very peaceful. Some of our favorite exhibits were the gator, prairie dogs, Barred Owl, Grivet Monkey, Miniature Horse, Coatimundi, Grey Fox, Zebras, and nearly all the Reptile exhibits. Toward the end of our visit, we sat down on a bench near some building/structures. One of the workers asked us if we would like to interact w/the animals and touch or hold any of them. We were able to hold a Tortoise, California King Snake, and Grey Rat. We also were able to touch a Blue Tongued Skink! That was probably our favorite part of the zoo, along with feeding (some hand feeding) the animals. The owner also came out and personally greeted us again, and gave us another bag of corn, and I believe carrots to feed the animals. His generous and kind spirit exuded out of him, and the love he has for his animals. Also, I believe the younger male and female workers were volunteers, but seemed as highly qualified as any worker at a larger zoo. They were so friendly, nice, and knowledgeable. I would definitely return if in the area, and recommend that others visit here. This is truly a hidden gem that all animal lovers will enjoy!
