“The old man who lived under a rock”

Giant Rock is a large freestanding boulder in the Mojave Desert near Landers California, that covers 5,800 square feet of ground and is seven stories high. Giant Rock is purported to be the largest free standing boulder in the world. Native Americans of the Joshua Tree, California, area consider it to be sacred. In the 1950s it was a gathering point for UFO believers. It is located on land which was at that time leased by George Van Tassel, a purported flying-saucer contactee and organizer of UFO conventions. Van Tassel also built the nearby integration and a small airport in the vicinity, which he operated from 1947 to 1975. A single large room, which was subsequently filled in, was dug beneath the rock and resided in by a prospector named Frank Critzer during the 1930s and early 1940s. Critzer, a friend of Van Tassel's, perished in a self-detonated dynamite explosion in this room on July 24, 1942, while being investigated by local police. Shortly after the turn of the 21st century, Giant Rock fractured in two, revealing an interior of white granite. The exterior surface of the rock is partially covered in graffiti.

Why does this have such a low rating??? At first glance, it really just is a big rock. HOWEVER, it is the largest free standing boulder in the world, and it's got that insane UFO/alien history to it. Seriously, go see how massive it is, and look for aliens while you're at it. And you can visit the Integratron, since it's right nearby.

It's a great place to visit. You can rock climb and experience the vortex. This area has lei lines which is like meridians on a human body. They are flowing currents of energy.

This would had been a nice location except the place has been trashed. Broken glass and beer cans litter the location. I watched people toss beer cans into what was once the German miners residence under the rock. Oh, and the spray paint is also a nice touch. Lots of "four letter words" directed at everyone from Biden to X lovers. Bring your kids! Don't waste your time here. It's a big disappointment. Especially considering the vandalism of what indigenous people have held sacred for thousands of years.
