“The go to spot for movie premieres”
Formerly Grauman's Chinese Theatre, TCL Chinese Theatre is a movie theater on the historic Hollywood Walk of Fame at 6925 Hollywood Boulevard in Hollywood, California. Formerly Mann's Chinese Theatre, the current name of the theatre became official on January 2013 after TCL Corporation purchased the naming rights. The original Chinese Theatre was commissioned following the success of the nearby Grauman's Egyptian Theatre, which opened in 1922. Built over 18 months, from January 1926 by a partnership headed by Sid Grauman, the theater opened May 18, 1927, with the premiere of Cecil B. DeMille's film The King of Kings.
It has since been home to many premieres, including the 1977 launch of George Lucas's Star Wars, as well as birthday parties, corporate junkets and three Academy Awards ceremonies. Among the theater's most distinctive features are the concrete blocks set in the forecourt, which bear the signatures, footprints, and handprints of popular motion picture personalities from the 1920s to the present day. The TCL Chinese Theatre has partnered with IMAX Corporation to introduce the single largest IMAX® auditorium in the world. The new theatre seats 932 people, and hosts the third largest commercial movie screen in North America.
The Chinese Theater makes for a nice photo op. It's one of Hollywood's most famous landmarks. The coolest part are the hand and footprints of old school Hollywood celebrities.
Hollywood Blvd in general and especially the Chinese Theater are very crowded and attract a very shady element. The outside of the Theater takes 10 minutes to see, the creeps dressed as spider-man and the guys trying to sell you their CDs take a half hour to ward off!
Yes it is crowded but it is AWSOME! Do the $10 tour.. It is worth it!!! Absolutely best 10 bucks we spent! Or you can actually go in and watch a movie! This is a real wow theater. Crazy history and a must see in Hollywood !
This is such an iconic L.A. location, it's great to get a photo in front of it. But, as mentioned, it's very crowded. Also, fun fact, The Oriental theater in the game Grand Theft Auto V was modeled on Grauman’s Chinese Theatre (now called TCL Chinese Theatre).
The old school Hollywood history here is very cool. It is incredibly crowded and difficult to see all of the handprints, autographs, etc. Be prepared to be patient! My kids enjoyed comparing their hands and feet to those of the stars who left their prints. We were a little sad when we saw Robin Williams' impressions and his inscription "Carpe Diem." They enjoyed seeing the blocks with the Hunger Games and Harry Potter stars. Super fun and super crowded. We left sooner than we wanted to because of a group being a little over-zealous with their megaphones. Another cool place checked off of our bucket list.
Go see a movie here!
