“Designed by Frank Lloyd Wright”
Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center opened its doors after nearly 60 years of debate on July 18, 1997. It was first designed by Wisconsin native and internationally-renowned architect Frank Lloyd Wright in 1938 as a cultural, governmental and recreational building. Wright reworked the design several times between 1938 and 1958 before signing off on the final plans seven weeks before his death in 1959. Frank Lloyd Wright originally proposed a design for the Monona Terrace Community Convention Center in 1938. His architectural vision for the City of Madison – a curvilinear gathering place that would link the shore of Lake Monona to the State Capitol – has now been realized. With interiors redesigned by Taliesin architect Tony Puttnam, Monona Terrace spans ninety feet out over shimmering waters, incorporating thoroughly modern technology and amenities with the architect´s signature organic design. Perhaps one of the most memorable ways to enjoy Monona Terrace is by taking a guided tour of this architectural masterpiece. Trained guides will reveal how Wright´s organic architecture is expressed in dramatic open spaces, circular forms and breathtaking lake views.Monona Terrace is accessible to visitors with disabilities.
Monona Terrace is home to a lot of events in the Madison area, but the best is the weekly radio show "What'd Ya Know?" with Michael Feldman. Going to see the show is a great summer roadtrip. Madison is a really great college town with a lot to do. So check out the show on NPR some weekend and book your tickets now!
Very cute! It is a beautiful building with an awesome view of the lake. On the lake you can see boats, people fishing, and there is even a really cool bike trail running next to it. I originally put the address in directly from the app and it actually took me to a parking lot which was great, but the actual place was just to the right (about a 4-5 minute walk). I don't know if that was just my phone, but it is just a friendly tip.
