“Largest Spring in Arizona”
Mammoth Spring is Arkansas's largest spring and the second largest spring in the Ozark Mountains. A National Natural Landmark, the spring flows nine million gallons of water hourly. Forming a scenic 10-acre lake, it then flows south as the Spring River, a popular Ozark trout and float stream. Located near the spring, the park's 1886 Frisco depot will take you back in time to an early 1900s train station. Parked just outside the train station is a Frisco caboose to explore, too. Here at the picturesque park, remnants of a mill and hydroelectric plant also reflect Mammoth Spring's history. Park facilities include an information center that also serves as an Arkansas Welcome Center. Exhibits here share the story of the area's history and natural resources. Nearby are picnic sites, a trail, ball field, and children's playground.
Water coming from underground thru the limestone makes for beautiful blue streams running in two directions!!
Absolutely awesome stop on our road-trip. The two ladies at the visitor were top notch and very helpful. There is a visitor's center that has information from all around the state. The park is very well maintained and clean. The power of the rushing water was very impressive. I have been to a few spring but have never seen one that flowed at the rate of this one. The old power plant has interactive exhibits to explain the functions of the hydroelectric generators that were used in the early 20th century. There are plenty of walking areas around the spring, lake, and the transition to the river. The mimosas were in full bloom and made the park small great. The train depot attendant was very polite and outgoing. He answered all of our questions and showed us the very well done exhibits of the prior train services that were available in the area. A short walk or drive through the park gets you to the fish hatchery where there is a beautiful exhibit room with large aquariums with local fish and an alligator. This was a great stop and will take a few hours of your day to get through.
Great stop! Beautiful new Fish Hatchery building with aquarium displays of the various fish in the area. Kids loved it. There is also a train caboose kids can explore. Us the beautiful lake and dam, and the playground. Perfect place to stop on a road trip.
Wish we'd had more time to explore--ours was just a real quick stop and walk for a driving break while passing through--but this was a beautiful and serene place.
