Grover Hot Springs State Park

We camped here with a 17' trailer. The maximum trailer length for all sites is 24'. Our friends driving a 27' class C and were nearly turned away. The park has painted stripes on the asphalt in front of the kisok indicating the 24' maximum length allowed. Our friends were allowed in but had to sign a liability waiver. Be forewarned if you drive a big RV.
The two hot springs require an additional fee ($7.00) above and beyond the $35.00 a night we paid to camp.

The park is near the town of Markleeville, south of Lake Tahoe. This is a wonderful park to base out of to explore the adjacent area, although there are many USFS campgrounds nearby if you can't fit.

We had no AT&T cell service in the campground.

When we lived in California we used to come here a lot. We now visit when we are passing through the area.

The pools are cement but they are nicely built. There are two pools. One is a swimming pool and one is a large soaking poll that can hold 40+ people. The great thing about the pools are that you can soak and enjoy some great mountain views.

There are shower rooms at the pools.

The camping is a bit of a ways (a long walk) from the pools. The campground is really nice with lots of great tall pine trees. There are nice fire pits and tables. No hookups. We always have a pleasant time.

There is some fantastic hiking if you head up the valley with neat little waterfalls. It's a really pleasant place well worth a visit.

There is a pretty good restaurant and a small general store down the road 8 miles or so at Markleevile.

It get's crowded on summer weekends. There is a limit on how many people they let in the pools and on big weekends you will see lines waiting to get in the pools.

This state park has sites that are much larger than normal, but are often not well suited for RV's. Hammock people will love it though. Strongly suggest looking at campsitephotos.com before making a reservation if you are bringing an RV to make sure the site is long enough and fairly level.

There is a good amount of hiking right from the camp including a large meadow and several creeks.

The showers are good and inexpensive ($1 gets you 10min). The store provides slow but free wifi 24hrs a day. It is a short drive (3mi) into town for cell service, wifi, restaurants, etc. Dead quiet at night.

The hot springs themselves are a bit disappointing since they are an additional $10 and channeled into a shallow swimming pool. They close early (7pm) and there is little or no shade. Perhaps they more enjoyable in the winter!

We have stayed here several times and each time had a nice experience. This is a smaller campground with only 2 loops, but campsites are spacious. Unless you are camping in shoulder season, reservations are recommended and are site specific. Roads and spurs are paved. No hookups and narrow roads and spurs that aren't so level so take care to research your campsite if you are bringing any type of RV in. Max trailer 24', motorhome 27' but you will still want to research your site before booking. Price is increasing $10. this month (May 2019) to $35. per night.

Clean, quiet, shady, and family friendly. Each site has a fire pit/grill combo and a picnic table, as well as a bear box which is mandatory. The rangers are serious about not leaving cooking equipment, or any food out (or in tents), day or night. This is for our bears' sake. Grills and food easily fit inside the bear box for storage while you're not at your site. Water spigots are at every few campsites. There is a nice little camp store by the check-in office. They sell ice cream and some sundries and cute wildlife souvenirs.

There are several trail options. Hike up to the waterfall about .5 mile from the campground, or take a longer 3-5 mile hike on one of the other trails. If you are there for the Hot Springs, you can walk or ride your bike to it, about .5 mile away. Entrance fee is $10. for the pools. There is a hot spring soaking pool and a regular swimming pool. The closest town is Markleeville which you drive through on the way to Grover Hot Springs. There are a few nice places to grab a bite, or a coffee, or a beer in town. There is also a very mini market there. Bring any groceries with you as there aren't any in the state park. The best Verizon service I could get was 1 bar at some areas of our loop and on a hike. We had no service at our site.

Flush toilet / water available / bathroom sink / shower available / table / fire pit / easy access / high shade.

We stayed there on early June, Tioga pass was still closed, and it was really cold (5°C at night on the tent). So be aware of the weather… and prepare good sleeping bags! Otherwise, the campground is nice, a lot of trees, a beautiful meadow… Sanitaries are clean and showers are really hot (with quarters). We arrived at 8:00 on evening, it was full, but they arranged us by giving us the handi site. So always asked, even if it's "FULL". Other solution, there is a primitive campground (with nothing) on the road to the campground, it's not really indicated but rangers can give you more informations.

Hot springs charged 10$/day, there are two swimming pools (one with hot mineral water and one regular). You can walk from the campground (15mn) or take your car. You can go and back during the day, be sure to have the stamp on your hand. They limit the number of people allow on the swimming pool, so it's not so crowded.

We stayed here in late August 2020. Our campsite #21 was very spacious with room for our campervan and a tent. No leveling required. The sites do not have much privacy but the sites are generously sized and the campground as a whole is awesome. Under the new Covid protocol, the pools are by online reservation only, $10 for a 1 1/2 hour session which is plenty long and with a max of 25 persons per session. The pools are amazing and a short half mile walk from the campground. There is a great 3 mile round-trip hike from the campground to a waterfall that has a nice swimming hole. We had some noisy campers next to us but otherwise had a splendid stay.
