“large collection of authentic Indian artifacts”
The Tobucksy Courthouse is located in Downtown McAlester just south of the authentic Choctaw Village. Built in 1876 as a home for Dr. D.M. Hailey the modest frame building resembles that of a typical home in Indian Territory prior to statehood. This building later became the Tobucksy County Courthouse and was once the setting for trials of lawbreakers within the Choctaw Nation. Now, the courthouse houses a FREE museum with a large collection of authentic Indian artifacts. Come view this piece of Choctaw History and hear the stories of those who dispensed justice in the Choctaw Nation!
