“a well preserved example of an Italianate post office”
We are located in downtown McKinney one block off the square at Chestnut St. and Virginia St.The Collin County Historical Society’s museum building was originally a 1911 federal post office. The museum is located at 300 E. Virginia St. at Chestnut in beautiful downtown McKinney. The building received Texas Historic Landmark status in 1997. The building was designed by J.H. Shuttle. It is a well preserved example of an Italianate post office. The tile roof, ornamental columns, eaves and window configuration are common to American post offices after 1910. We are open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10AM – 3PM for research needs. We are open to the public during exhibitions and events.
