“committed to provide outstanding ecological education”
Lockerly Arboretum is a public garden founded in 1965 by Mr. E.J. Grassmann of Elizabeth. It serves as a horticultural laboratory, with collections of azalea, camelia, conifers, holly, rhododendron, and viburnum, as well as daylily, iris, and a greenhouse for cactus and tropical plants. It is committed to provide outstanding ecological, horticultural and historical education in order to promote preservation and stewardship of the environment, by fostering an understanding of and an appreciation for the natural world.
The locals love their regular events and summer camps…but there is so much for a visitor, also! 50 acres of beautiful shrubbery, trees, camellias, conifers and more. The gardens are free to roam, and this is another great place for a picnic.
Rose Hill, a Greek Revival on the property, is available for touring for a nominal fee.
