“Tour the Front Country or Backcountry!”
Whether in the frontcountry at roadside campgrounds or in the backcountry camping at remote sites reached only by hiking, camping is one of the most popular activities in the Park. Our campsites range from small cabins, to bunkhouses shared with others, to remote tent sites and leantos you can have all to yourself. Some campsites in the Park have been used for nearly a century. It is worth taking some time to review the information on our camping pages so that your stay in the Park is as enjoyable as possible.
Such an amazing place! The park rangers were very helpful and nice. The hike up Katahdin was challenging but the view was worth every bit of it.
Baxter State Park is a fantastic wilderness with opportunities to hike, camp, fish and observe wildlife in the pristine Maine woods. Read a full review of my last Baxter adventure on my blog. The highlight of any visit is a hike up Mount Katahdin, it is spectacular. Do not miss the chance to rent a canoe and throw in a line in one of the many un-advertised kettle ponds. You will have the place to yourself and the trout are always biting as you float around these spring-fed, ice-cold gems in the shadow of the impressive mountains.
Pets are not allowed inside Baxter State Park.
