The Morro Rock is a natural landmark of the area and stands as a monument within Morro Bay State Park.

If you are a person who loves scenic backgrounds then take your time to spend a lovely day or afternoon there,

We took our shoes off and drowned our feet to the sandy coast, allowing the chilly water to refresh us from the heat.

Such a lovely walk this we had, the kids even swam for a bit while were enjoying our lunch and sunbathing.

Great location for family trippers.

February 12, 2021-

We noticed a significant change in our experience this time and felt we needed to note it for future campers. That is to say, most campers know that Covid has had an impact on the whole Camper/RV dynamic.

This time of year, the park is generally sparse during the week. Also, most RV's ( Class A, Class C and bigger 5th wheel trailers) tend to be in the area where hook ups are available. And most campers comply with each park's differing rules and regulations. To insure a peaceful, tranquil stay, Camp Hosts are available to enforce rule infractions. Two of those rules for this park are:
1) Generators must be off from 8:00pm-10:00am.
2) Quiet hour is from 10:00pm-6:00am.

We were camped in a non hook up area that traditionally camps tents and smaller trailers. Not so this time, we were between two older Class C RV's and a fifth wheel trailer that was over twenty years old. This was not so bad and in the spirit of being good neighbors, we tolerated the stench and sound of (3) tired old generators. However, neither of the parties that were camped by us were in compliance of both the quiet hour or generator policy. This went on for two nights. We thought that a Camp Host would notify them of the rule infraction, to no avail. The rule infractions were NOT enforced.

Incredibly disappointed.....This was our first disappointing experience at this particular park.

Across the street from the bay, a couple minutes drive to quaint downtown area and beach, and hiking right out of the campground. This state park is just the basics, dry camping except for a handful of electric sites but roomy, well maintained bathrooms and showers. Very safe and family atmosphere, Dog friendly, bike friendly. Great vacation base for Pismo and Cambria also as they are just a quick 30 mins away. No National Park Lifetime senior pass discount..FYI

We stayed here April 9-11 and finally had our first stay at a CA State Park after a couple years of RV camping. We somehow lucked out finding a hook-up site that must have been a cancellation because I booked only two weeks prior. The campground is easy to navigate and the pull through site was ample size. It looked like the dry sites were a little more spaced out but some are very exposed with little to no shade or privacy at all.

Staff takes good care of the campground. Our site was clean and the fire pit was shoveled out. We didn’t use the restrooms/showers. Lots of noise from the neighboring dry section. Mostly from multi-family groups - kids playing, families laughing and shouting, loud music, nothing offensive, but you won’t get a quiet, serene nature experience here. Everyone seemed to quiet down by 9-10pm though.

The campground is in a great location - not too close to town with noise and lights, but close enough to only take minutes to drive to shops, restaurants, etc. Also easy to get to neighboring towns like SLO or Pismo. We enjoyed walking the dog across the street to the boardwalk in the nature preserve.

We’ll return eventually, but we’ve got other places to check off our list first.

What did state workers do since covid, this park is unkept, weeds a foot high, lack of care in restrooms, although they were clean walls and fixtures needed a lot of care. We had just came back from traveling the gulf states and bathrooms and grounds were very clean and landscaped, these were states (Texas and Florida) with no state taxes. We live in California with one of the highest state taxes and let me tell you we’re not getting what we pay for.

The only thing rivaling the campground is the climate and proximity to a plethora of local attractions ie, the nearby Natural History Museum, Hearst Castle and wine tasting in Paso Robles, not to mention the downtown area itself. We are in our 60's-70's and rented ebikes from Cal Coast Adventures. We highly recommend this company. The online rental process was simple and the bikes were in good condition. We found our way out to Morro Rock to view a raft of Sea Otters and walked on the beautiful beach there. Getting around town on designated bike paths as well as shared paved roads, was safe and fun. We also made it all the way up to the top of Rock Hill by way of the golf course. Great hiking trails and beautiful views of the area. The campground is a nice mix of tent and rv sites. The clientele were a fun mix of folks from seemingly everywhere. We stayed in site #25, a perfect fit for out 17' Grand Design 17MKE. The sites 32 thru 65 have more shade and privacy. Sites 65 thru 117 are more open (better for solar collection). The electric panel and water service are well maintained, and the dump site was clean and well cared for. however, be mindful with the black water rinse hose as the pressure seems very high! I made the mistake of opening it fully, only to have it break free of the connection to the side of my rig. Thankfully, it was a warm day and the fresh water shower almost welcome. The only minor negative was the mechanized trash collection (every other day?). The big trucks come by early in the morning to collect the bins in each row of the campground. Be prepared if you like to sleep in!

On a 3 month trip and wanted a few days to relax doing not much of anything. This place is perfect. Have a pull-thru with electric and water. Lots of mature trees. Cement and stone picnic table, firepit, and a stone grill. Can hear lines tapping sailboat masts and a faint fog horn in the distance. Very soothing! Great downtown area with lots of shops and restaurant. Saw seals from the T Wharf. Watched surfers at Morro Rock. Did a couple hikes behind the campground. Wood is available in the campground for $10 a bundle. Currently, there is some road construction / closure at the Route 1 / S Bay Blvd exit. There are frequent detour signs that will get you back to S. Bay Blvd. The dump station costs $10 for 15 minutes even if staying there.. Credit card only. Was outsourced about 4 months ago per ranger.
