If you are a person who loves scenic backgrounds then take your time to spend a lovely day or afternoon there,
We took our shoes off and drowned our feet to the sandy coast, allowing the chilly water to refresh us from the heat.
Such a lovely walk this we had, the kids even swam for a bit while were enjoying our lunch and sunbathing.
Great location for family trippers.
we go there all the time and love it:-)
For several years now we have spent Memorial Day weekend in this great state park. The park is not directly on the coast, but just set back a little back from the bay.
There are lots of reasons to love this park Morro Bay is a cute town which is pretty 30 to 40 minutes walk away. If you are too tired to walk ,or at least walk back, you can ride a shuttle from the town back to the state park. It runs through the summertime, starting on Memorial Day. There is also a marina just across the street where you can rent singl vor double kayaks. When the water is smooth, there can be few things better than paddling across the bay and taking a stroll across the sand dunes, collecting sand dollars on the beach. There are some pretty hikes from the park too that will give you a decent workout and some wonderful views of the town. The smoke stacks in the town may at first seem like an eyesore until you realize they have become a loved part of the landscape for locals.
A few of the sites have electric and water and are pull through sites. There is a dump station on site. As with all California beach state parks you will probably need reservations well in advance if you want to stay over the weekend.

This is our second visit to this park and you can bet we'll be back again. Beautiful wooded setting across the street from the sheltered bay. The first review sums up how nice this place is. I'll just add that there's a good nature museum in the park and a golf course adjacent to it. The kayak rental place (for kayaking around the beautiful bay) is across the street and was only open during Friday, Saturday, and Sundays when we visited mid-week in February. I did rent a kayak on the previous visit and was enthralled by the setting. Road noise is a problem for those camping close to the street. Likewise, generator noise is a problem when camping near the non-electric sites (which comprise over half the park).

We live not to far from here, so we stay at this park at least a couple times a year. I would give the hookup sites a higher rating than the dry camping sites if I could, but instead I just rated the whole park 4 stars overall. Generally speaking, besides having power and water and being easier to park your RV, the hookup sites are more private and quiet, even though they are closer to the road. The dry sites are more crowded and noisier due to generator use. The dry sites are $35/night and the hookup sites are $50 as of 7/15/2015.
The park is in a very aesthetically pleasing area right across from a marina and the bay, and has mature shade trees all around. It's a photographer's dream. A very nice golf course borders the campground and there are hiking trails all around. You can rent kayaks at the marina, or launch your own there too. There is a great restaurant next to the marina too. It's bike friendly and you can ride it into town and out to Morro Rock, or wherever you like. The beaches, surfing, fishing, boating and hiking nearby, all add up to make this a wonderful experience for the outdoors person. There is also shopping and restaurants in town for the non-outdoors people.

We stayed 8 nights and would visit again, decent access to the bay and a few walking trails, but I would not consider this a destination state park. Location is very good to the quaint, touristy town of Morrow Bay and about 15 minutes drive is the cool little town of San Luis Obispo.
Like many California state parks, years of budget cuts have surfaced numerous maintenance issues, never-mind we paid $35/night for a dry camping site. Typical of state parks in this state, sites are pretty close, showers houses are limited, and there is only a single dump station. With abundant generators and campfires, I would imagine this place is a zoo during summer and holidays.
Our stay at this campground occurred the first week of January and park was pretty quiet - especially in the non-hook-ups loops. Nearly all rigs were crammed into the water/electric loop, affording us lots of solitude. All things being equal, we had a really nice stay.
Working remotely was pretty easy (AT&T and Verizon), no issue there.

We dry camped 3 nights at two different sites in Morro Bay. Saturday night was definitely the fullest/loudest with kids and generators running but the park was probably only at half capacity. Then the activity dramatically dropped off which left us with quiet mornings and evenings. Walking to the estuary and around the park is really beautiful. We rented kayaks from the marina at "The Kayak Shack" and saw an incredible amount of wildlife. Biking into town was easy (there are some good hills to tackle) and only took about 10 minutes. The office is open from 9:15 am to 4 pm which makes it hard to wake up and get out before reserving your site again (if you don't book online). The hookup spots are packed in like tuna cans but they have the best views of the water. Overall, a really beautiful spot.

Morro Bay State Park is on the bay, a couple miles from the town of Morro Bay. I ended up at the campsite in a torrential downpour, looking for somewhere to spend the night that wasn't flooded or muddy.
The campground itself is fine. The sites are a good size, allowing for some privacy from your neighbors. Sites with hookups ($50) are closer to the water (though no sites are *on* the water) and dry camping sites ($35) are behind those. When I was there half the bathrooms were closed and there looked to be ongoing maintenance.
My beef with this campsite, and perhaps many California state park campgrounds, is that I paid $35 for what was essentially overnight parking. There weren't any amenities to speak of. For example, there are showers but they are coin operated. For $35/night dry camping, you couldn't throw in a 5 minute shower?
That being said, there aren't many options near Morro Bay, and this campground is acceptable. Just pricey.

We stayed in early April 2018 in our 32 foot fifth wheel.
Access: Backing into our spot was a bit tricky, due to the narrow roads and large dumpsters that can be tough to navigate around. Certainly not impossible, just requires a thoughtful approach. Checking in was easy!
Amenities: Though there were a few restrooms to choose from, not all were in working order during our stay. It wasn't an inconvenience, but worth noting for those busy months when lines might form.
We did not opt for an ocean view and after seeing those spots, we were happy with our decision. The ocean view spots are not parallel with the coastline, which is several hundred yards away. Plan to look around traffic, through a parking lot and beyond the marina to see the ocean. It isn't a bad view, just not worth the extra cost.
The camp hosts were great! They circled the park several times a day, checking on guests and offering firewood for $10 a bundle.
We did not have hookups, but there is access to potable water throughout the campground. The dump station is on the Northeast end of the campground and is a U-shape with tight corners. It was doable, but required some hugging of the shrubbery to make the turns.
Environment: There's a mix of RV campers and tent campers, all next to each other. The noise was a little obnoxious at times in the tent camping area at the center of the park. Music played rather loudly until the quiet hour was reached (and sometimes later than that!) so it seemed that the quiet rules weren't strictly enforced. Not a huge deal, but worth being aware of if you're looking for some R&R. It isn't the most peaceful spot to camp.
Area: With a small marina across the street, the Museum of Natural History a small walk away, and a beautiful estuary with walking trails nearby, we had plenty to do! We also visited Avila Beach for the farmer's market, San Simeon to see the elephant seals, and Cambria for an afternoon at Moonstone Beach. The easy access to nearby towns and beaches is why we stayed at this park, and why we would stay again.

We stayed in the hook up sites, a little more expensive but electric allowed us to watch tv and run our electric fireplace at night. Golf course is amazing and offers discounted rates to campers. Walking distance to the natural history museum. The sites are a little narrow but our 34 foot fifth wheel fit as well as our Ram dually.
There is no sewer at the sites but there is a dump station.
