Do the boat tour. Just do it. You could certainly enjoy the lakeshore from in-land, but nothing compares to the boat tour. You will be in awe and get the best pictures.

Consider doing the sunset tour (book early). If you’re going in cooler months (which can include June) consider bringing a blanket and warm layers. If it’s a windy day, you will be cold.

What a gorgeous place! We did the loop trail in 5 hours and it was wonderful. Just like the guy at the information desk said: "probably the best trail in the UP."

Just a quick tip, if you're going to take the boat trip along the Pictured rocks go early but book the last tour of the day. The setting sun brings out the color of the rocks that you won't see during the other tours.
