“Escape to the great outdoors!”
Located at the southern end of the Santa Ana Mountains near Murrieta, the 8,300-acre reserve is home to mule deer, mountain lions, bobcats, and vernal pools with fairy shrimp. In spring, chocolate lilies, California poppies, and threadleaf brodiaea bloom. Thereís hiking and, on select trails, horseback riding and mountain biking. Tip: Sign on for the Saturday afternoon mountain bike tour.
So close to Murietta, the Santa Rosa Plateau Ecological Reserve is just magnificent to visit with your whole family.
There aren't any difficult trails to follow (there were even families with toddlers)
and there are fantastic things to see.
The trees are glorious and even if you go on a sunny day (like we did) you can easily find some shaded areas underneath the massive oak trees.
There is staff at the Visitors Center, where you can ask whatever you want for the trails or for the park itself.
Great for family escapes!!We all enjoyed it!
Enjoy a sunny California day outdoors at the Santa Rosa Plateau Ecological Preserve. These preserved landscapes cover over 7,500-acres and are the perfect destination for hiking, horseback riding, and other outdoor recreation.
Santa Rosa Plateau extends from the Santa Ana Mountains, offering unique views of Southern California. While most of the region is characterized by deserts, this verdant plateau is full of large trees, grassy plains, and even colorful flower fields that blossom during the spring.
Drive approximately a dozen miles northwest from Temecula, where you’re greeted by rolling hills upon approaching the Santa Rosa Plateau. Well-marked trails direct to popular routes like the scenic loop trail, trails to the Vernal Pools, or carve out your own adventurous hike around the beautiful landscapes.
We think this place is definitely worth a visit when you're visiting nearby Temecula!
