“get back to nature!”
Shelby Park is a large, urban multi-use park along the Cumberland River featuring river views; migratory bird and other wildlife viewing opportunities; playgrounds; a fenced off-leash dog park; adult and youth softball fields; the Old Timers adult baseball fields; 9 and 18 hole golf courses; Sevier Lake, popular for casual fishing; a Cumberland River boat launch ramp; several reservable picnic shelters; and the Shelby Park Community Center which offers free programs as well as basketball, tennis and multi-use courts.
I only went to the dog park but it was nice. Shade and benches to sit on and grass and dirt for the dog to romp in. It was hot but there was a working dog and human fountain.
Great children park with water for hot days. Parking is free although it says 'government area cars will be towed'
Definitely a spot for visitors trying to get a taste of the local lifestyle.
I visited on a Sunday morning, and rode my longboard along the miles of trails. Although the trail didn't offer a great view of the Cumberland River, the path was well kept, and great for a workout.
On Wednesday evenings during the warm season, they have a farmer's market by the river with food trucks and tons of fresh goodies!
