“A New Haven Tradition Since 1938”
Sally's was established in 1938 by Salvatore Consiglio. Renown for thin crust pizza still baked today in the same coal-fired oven that has been in operation for over 60 years. Continuously operated since 1938, Sally's is one of the oldest family run pizzerias in the Northeast. Today Sal's wife Flo, daughter Ruth, son's Bob and Rick still maintain the family tradition.
Pepe's down the road definitely gets the fame, but for years Sally's has been its rival in the historic New Haven pizza landscape. Sally's is not the most pleasant environment to eat a pizza in. It's one of those legendary food joints that gets business regardless, so they don't really make an effort to make you happy. But they get away with it because the pizza is AMAZING and truly traditional. For example: the red pizza literally comes without cheese. If you're looking for pizza in New Haven, I suggest you hit Pepe's and Sally's back-to-back before joining the army behind one or the other.
