“rising above a lava plain”
Pisgah Crater, or Pisgah Volcano, is a young volcanic cinder cone rising above a lava plain in the Mojave Desert, between Barstow and Needles, California in San Bernardino County, California. The volcanic peak is around 2.5 miles (4.0 km) south of historic U.S. Route 66-National Old Trails Highway and of Interstate 40, and west of the town of Ludlow.
No signs. Really can't even see a crater at all. Road is semi paved to unpaved and dead ends at a power station. Long time until another fwy entrance too. Just skip this one!
The location is off. No need to go down the dirt road. Go to the other side of the highway and you'll see it
You can see the cone, looks like a small mountain on the right if you are traveling East.
