“In the old Cook County Sheriff building”
The Niles Historical Museum is one of the largest in the northeast Illinois area staffed by Niles Historical Society volunteers. The building served as the Cook County Sheriff's quarters from 1923 until 1984 and is one of the oldest municipal structures in Niles - a local landmark. On March 25, 1985, the showcases were moved from the Trident Center (8060 Oakton Street) to 8970 Milwaukee Avenue. The grand opening and dedication of the Museum were held on October 25, 1986. Niles Historical Society officers and members, Village officials, and many guests were present. The Niles V.F.W. Memorial Post 7712 presented the Museum with its first flag which was used in the ceremony.
