“One of the world's greatest places for houseboating!”

Arizona is a pretty awesome state for nature lovers and scenery addicts, and perhaps one of the most beautiful places to bask in Arizona’s awesomeness is Lake Powell in the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. Our friend Mike Shubic over at Mike’s Road Trip gives us this great guide to Page/Lake Powell as part of his Top 25 Arizona Road Trip List. Here’s what Mike has to say... "Lake Powell is encompassed within the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area and is at the mouth of the Grand Canyon. The lake is extremely scenic with tall canyons, red rock formations and sand dunes—it’s a wonderful place for recreation such as house-boating, water skiing, kayaking, fishing, hiking, camping, exploration and so much more. Here is an interesting fact…the stunning body of water known as Lake Powell has more coastline than the entire west coast…with finger inlets of turquoise blue water stretching for miles. Here are five things you can’t miss when visiting Lake Powell. Antelope Canyon - You’ve probably seen the amazing pictures of Antelope Canyon before, but probably didn’t know where it was located. This is a fantastic experience and a must when visiting Page / Lake Powell. Tour the lake – You can rent a boat, or, hop aboard a tour boat for the Antelope Canyon Cruise, which will provide you with a quick introduction to the lake. Wesley Powell Museum – Learn about the canyon before, and, after the dam was built. John Wesley Powell was the first person to traverse the mighty Colorado River." One of our FAVORITE stops out of a 10,000 mile road trip. It is so beautiful! Planet of the Apes taped the opening scene here. There is soo much to do. The whole family can float the Colorado river down the Grand Canyon / rent a boat for the lake/ antelope canyons. This is an absolute must stop!!!

We camped on Lone Rock Beach and it was beautiful. On the one hand there were showers but it was sort of back country style so we had nothing to cook on. Great place to camp to go to antelope canyon and horseshoe bend.

We went to kill sometime before heading to horseshoe bend for the sunset! We did not know quite what we were getting ourselves into! The lake was very beautiful and warm! The public access site was very clean and we enjoyed a few hours there. Pack a cooler and enjoy your day on the beach (:

One of the most beautiful and peaceful places on Earth... it is definitely worth the visit, especially for those busy-bodies looking to slow life down a bit and relax. You wont find a more calming location within 5000 miles...
