The dump station was out of order, so we had to dump 1 mile down the road at Buckskin Mountain State Park, which by the way didn't have any road noise though it was a little more crowded.
On the upside, River Island State Park is clean and has a nice little walking trail from the campground.

We stopped here on a whim and hoped there would be open spots. We were pleasantly surprised that the park was maybe only 1/4 full & we were able to reserve a 2nd night. Most of the sites are pull through. They have water & electric and a dump station. The park is surrounded by mountains and nestled against the banks of the Colorado River, so there's a beach at the park. You have to walk down a steep embankment to reach it, but it's there! There was a large dog park. Bathrooms were clean. We didn't use the showers but they have those too. This place was like a hidden oasis.

Like all of the Arizona State Parks we’ve used, this one is clean, well-maintained and pleasant. The staff were helpful and cheerful. The park is right on the water and is surrounded by high rock formations on the other sides. It is a small park, and unlike some of the Arizona State Parks, the sites are parallel and somewhat less spacious, but much nicer than many commercial parks. The only other issue is the parks proximity to the Route 95. We did hear traffic noise most of the night. Otherwise a very nice campground.

We didn’t have reservations and were able to get a spot on a Saturday ( they had 4 spots open) . Mainly gravel through-out. Very well maintained. There was a beach area for swimming ( wanted to stay and hang-out) with restrooms close by. Newer part so young trees and not much shade . We didn’t have any issue with noise from the hwy. at all. We were parked in the middle of the park. Mostly pull- through spots. Not all spots have sewer, but there is a dump station. Nice scenery with beautiful rocks surrounding the park. The dog park was really nice( off leash too). Didn’t give it a 5 because I don’t like shower closets. They have enough room , but the whole floor gets wet and you have to go to the other bathroom for a sink & toilet. They were very clean though. We definately want to go back for a few days. Also if you have a boat, the boat ramp was nice . Con- not great cell- service. Very spotty .

Huge dirt bike rider here and someone recommended the site down the street. Well, they were full so we stayed here.
LOVED IT! Bathrooms- spotless!
Showers- hot and clean
Across the street is frontage road for dirt bike riding straight to the trails.
Major road across the street but nothing intolerable.

We stayed here in February. We had a reservation for a one-night stop over and liked it so much we stayed an extra day. Our pull-through site was a large site with power and water right on the Colorado River with a boat launch and a small beach. The park was immaculate...very well maintained.
It is in a small area surrounded by close-in mountains. Kind of like a mini-canyon and very scenic. There are some hiking trails at Buckskin Mountain SP a mile up the road and your camping pass is good for day use there too. There is a store and gas station (with diesel) also a mile up the road and they have most anything you need. The stars at night were spectacular.
The main drawback to this campground was the noise from the highway. It tends to reverberate in the canyon although it is mostly quiet at night. This is why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. There is also very spotty cell service, but they do have free wifi.

One of the cleanest and neatest parks I’ve ever seen! Each camp spot was raked clean by the camp host prior to guests arrival. There wasn’t a spot of trash to be seen anywhere. The camp host obviously takes pride in his duties.
The restrooms were spotless, had plenty of hot water, and the showers were private, clean, and well maintained.
Had a nice 1/2 mile trail - the Wedge Trail - on the hills overlooking the camp and river and a cactus garden. Both were great for getting some exercise. The dog park was also very nice and hd water and enclosed fence to keep dogs safe.
The boat ramp and beach were nice for water sports. Unfortunately the fishing was not good for us this time of year.
It was a bit noisy at times due to proximity to the highway, but traffic dies down at night, so not too bad.

This is such an awesome campground (as are all of the Arizona State Parks!). The sites are long and (mostly) pull throughs. The only sites right on the river are for tents/vans but it's just a short walk to the water. The campground is set between the hills and it's gorgeous! The camp hosts are friendly. AZ always has free wifi for its state park guests too! One of our favorite parks!

We love this campground. Clean, well maintained, right on the river. Electric and water and a few full hookups, but the E/W sites are great. The rangers here are very nice and helpful and the campground is very well taken care of. Pay attention to the time of year and where the sun is because our site was in full sun even though we were right up against the rocks (which were beautiful), but our friends site was a pull through and they had shade most of the day. Not a big deal unless it is hot. It is close to the main highway, so there is highway noise. Showers are good (not anything stellar). Great dog park, really one of the best we have encountered! Beautiful little cactus gardens in the front of the park. Very little cell signal. We have a weboost and were able to boost our signal for calls and texts, but not much more. But the park wi-fi which is free worked for us enough to get lots of stuff done for our business, so that was a plus.
We will always stay here when we are in this area!

When we pulled in, our whole campsite was freshly raked. This seemed a little odd, like what's the point, but we weren't complaining. The bathrooms were spotless, and the showers were the cleanest we've seen with high pressure and plentiful hot water. Whoever manages this place deserves kudos for attention to detail. The beach by the river was nice for the kids to play in. There's a boat ramp. There are hiking trails in the area, but they don't go very far. The wildflowers were beautiful when we visited in late March. There was no Verizon internet to speak of, maybe one bar and super slow page loading if you're lucky.
