“Connecting man and nature to benefit both”
Callaway Gardens is a spectacular 13,000 acres of beautiful Georgia countryside in the Appalachian Mountains. Home of the world's largest azalea display, one of North America's biggest butterfly conservatories, and magnificent vegetable garden where PBS' "The Victory Garden" is filmed, this Georgia retreat is the perfect destination for family vacations or romantic getaways. Its comprehensive conference center provides facilities for trade shows and corporate events – all in an exquisite Georgia garden setting. Chase butterflies in its enclosed conservatory, get personal with birds of prey at our outdoor free-flight show, or soak up the Georgia sunshine on our white sand beach. They also provide outdoor activities like golf, tennis, bicycling, hiking, and more.
My family has been going here for years and we absolutely love it. The best times to go are for either the 4th of July fireworks display or for the Christmas in Lights. They've recently started doing Movies on the Beach again, where they put up a huge blow-up screen on Robin Lake's beach. It's a wonderful family trip, and would be perfect for a romantic weekend getaway as well.
You don’t have to travel hours from Atlanta to enjoy the beach. The Callaway Gardens Beach is less than two hours south of Atlanta, and has tons of activities for the very youngest traveler, to the older folks in your party. In addition, there is lots to do both in and out of the sun.
NatGeo called it one of the best Christmas light shows in the country!
The lines can get really long though...we have a few tips:
We recently went with the grandparents to Callaway Gardens and experienced the quintessential multigenerational weekend getaway. Callaway was the perfect location for our family.
The lodging options, the itinerary, the golf carts...it was great.
