“keeping the neighborhood hydrated since 1934”
Kay’s bar in Southeast Portland is nestled beside the vibrant intersection of SE Milwaukie Ave and SE Bybee Blvd in colorful Sellwood-Moreland. We are parked across the street from the historic Moreland Theater and a block from the cavernous Stars Antiques Malls—which represent more than 200 antique dealers on any given day. Sellwood’s famous Antique Row is located a few blocks to the southwest along 13th Ave. Close-by, the vintage Oaks Amusement Park, Springwater Corridor, and 140-acre Oaks Bottom Wildlife Refuge help to make the Sellwood waterfront one of the best places in Portland for a bit of R&R. Kay’s bar first opened in 1934, just a few months after the repeal of Prohibition. Since that time, it has functioned as a community watering hole for the Sellwood-Moreland neighborhood attracting mostly locals, professors from nearby Reed College, and the occasional ghost hunter. Renovations over the past several years have dramatically improved the interior and expanded the available seating without sacrificing the small-town vibe that lends this pedestrian-friendly strip of Westmoreland such character. We are proud to be a part of Sellwood-Moreland’s burgeoning restaurant and food scene, offering some of the best burgers and Tex-Mex dishes in Southeast Portland.
