Alamo Square Park

Steiner St & Hayes St, San Francisco, California 89509 USA

“As seen in the Full House intro”

Alamo Square is a residential neighborhood and park in San Francisco, California, in the Western Addition, a district of the city's fifth Supervisorial district, and are served by several Muni bus lines including the 5, 21, 22, and 24. Alamo Square Park consists of four city blocks at the top of a hill overlooking much of San Francisco, with a number of large and architecturally distinctive mansions along the perimeter. It is bordered by Fell Street to the south, Fulton Street to the north, Scott Street to the west, and Webster Street to the east. The part of the Western Addition surrounding the park is often referred to as the Alamo Square neighborhood. Its boundaries are not well-defined, but are generally considered to be Webster Street on the east, Golden Gate Avenue on the north, Divisadero Street on the west, and Fell Street on the south. It is characterized by Victorian architecture that was left largely untouched by the urban renewal projects in other parts of the Western Addition. The Alamo Square area contains the second largest concentration of homes over 10,000 square feet (930 m2) in San Francisco, after the Pacific Heights neighborhood.

People watching! This classic landmark park of SF is a fun afternoon hangout. Located to pretty central to a lot, it's worth checking out if you're nearby. You can see some great sights from atop of the surrounding neighborhoods given the steep terrain of SF. The coolest thing for me was seeing the famous Painted Ladies (the houses from the TV show - Full House). They are adjacent to the park and a beautiful sight to see. Bring your dog, a blanket, and watch people and tourists strolling by.

This is always a fun spot to hang out at for a little while. The hill is always filled with tourists looking at the painted ladies.

This is where the intro to Full House was filmed. It's a nice park, but awfully difficult to find a parking place if you are driving.

Alamo Square offers a pretty good view of downtown and includes the Painted Ladies. It's a popular tourist destination, with tourist busses frequently dropping off people. Having a picnic here is possible only on warmer days, as this park is VERY WINDY. In addition to the view, it also has a tennis court, and a short walk to the other side you can meet friendly dogs at the dog park.
