“300 acres of old-growth forest”
Within the Seattle city limits, Seward Park boasts 300 acres of beautiful forest land, home to eagles' nests, old growth forest, a 2.4 mile bike and walking path, an amphitheater, a native plant garden, an art studio, miles of hiking trails, shoreline, beaches and more. Visit the Friends of Seward ParkThis link will take you off the city of Seattle web site website. The site provides information about FOSP sponsored activities and work parties, Nature Center programs and other public events in the park. It also has a large (and growing) section on the natural history of the park. Seward Park is home to the Seward Park Environmental & Audubon Center, a partnership between National Audubon Society and Seattle Parks & Recreation. The Seward Park Center’s mission is to inspire exploration, discovery, and stewardship of the natural world through programs that promote healthy, sustainable communities. Go to their website to learn about free and low-cost nature programs for the community and schools as well as restoration, citizen science, and volunteer opportunities.
Seward Park is beautiful and not far from the city, an undeveloped peninsula with a wonderful loop around the perimeter and dozens of smaller trails through the forest. Great for biking, running, walking, picnics, and even Bon fires at the waterfront fire pit along the loop.
It is a great place to view Mt Rainier a level paved walking trail that loops the park about 2 miles. It is busy and too many dog walkers. The urban forest is never crowded and a great hike for kids or those who do not want high elevation. There are several smaller parks and quick hikes close by.
It's a beautiful park and large. It's just very busy. Parking can be hard.
