Filming location for the movie "The Hunger Games"...District 12 location. Multiple shooting locations were convenient because of economic struggles in North Carolina. An abandoned mill village outside of Hildebran (Henry River) and an old warehouse in Shelby (Royster P&M) were used to bring to life District 12, a poverty-stricken, rural Appalachia. “For District 12, when we found the areas around Shelby and in Henry River, we were blown away by how much that felt like we were reading the book and imagining it in our mind’s eye. Having such great specificity to the Appalachian roots of Katniss’ character felt really right to us.

We drove by but none of my kids recognized anything from the movie. Sadly, it looks a lot like other run down mill areas I've seen in NC.

When making this film they interview actural homeless EOPLE IN THIS POVERTY STRICKEN AREA. DID NOT PAY OR USR THEM. i pass this placr often not knowing history. However when i first came to Nc i lived in shelby. This area is considered west shelby. A highly drug traccicking area with the magistrate locat ed behind this building.
